Here is what we are working on in each subject this month....


Literacy- Daily 5 (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, Work on Writing), Guided Reading, Prereading Activities (predictions, picture walks, looking for sight words we know),  Retelling the story, Asking and answering questions about a story, Identifying characters, setting, major events (beginning, middle, ending), Naming the author and illustrator of a story and what their role is, Visualization, Antonyms, Understanding how illustrations support the story being told, Asking and answering questions about new vocabulary words that we hear in a story and what they mean, Comparing adventures and experiences of characters in stories

Phonemic Awareness- Knowledge of letters and sounds (We should be fluent with these skills), Rhyming, Beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words, Sight words, Clapping syllables in words, Blending words sounds together, Sorting objects into categories, CVC words  (consonant, vowel, consonant), Short and long vowels sounds

 

Writing-  Ideas (Writing about one main idea), Organization (Does our story make sense?), Conventions (Do we have capital letters at the beginning of our sentence, spaces between our words, and punctuation at the end?), Using Kid Writing and our knowledge of letters, sounds, and sight words to write about a topic, Opinion writing (Telling whether we like a topic and why), Writing about key details in informational text and providing evidence from the story to support the key details, Exploring a number of books by an author and expressing our opinions about them


Math- Number recognition 0-20, Counting to 100, Naming and Composing 2D and 3D shapes, Measurement, Writing numbers 0-20, Understanding that the last number said when counting is how many there is in the set (As long as you have stayed organized), Identifying if a group is greater than, less than, or the same, Decomposing Numbers 0-20, Sorting objects, Fluently adding and subtracting to 5
